Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria has been part of this state's landscape since 1846. Across two distinct sites, Melbourne Gardens and Cranbourne Gardens, the organisation spans some of Victoria's most significant natural and heritage landscapes.

Melbourne Gardens sits across 38 hectares on the banks of the Yarra River, with heritage lawns, lakeside settings and established planting at the heart of the city. Cranbourne Gardens extends across 363 hectares of native bushland reserve, offering a completely different atmosphere: open, wild, and distinctly Australian.

We offer a range of ceremony spaces across both sites, from large open lawns with sweeping lake views to quieter bush settings that suit smaller gatherings. Each space has its own character and its own light. A site visit is the best way to find the one that feels right for your event.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a ceremony booking?

Our Standard booking is three hours. That's the total time you and your suppliers have the lawn, covering set-up, the ceremony, photos and pack-down. There's no access before or after, so the run of the day has to fit inside the three hours. Extra time can be added at our standard hourly rate, subject to availability.

What does venue hire include?

Venue hire gives you exclusive use of your chosen ceremony location for the booked three hours, including a photography permit for your nominated photography and videography team to shoot throughout the Gardens, one vehicle access permit, and bump-in and bump-out within your hire period.

Every booking also has a dedicated Venue Concierge as your on-site point of contact, charged separately at $320.

Furniture and styling aren't included. We provide the space, and our Preferred Supplier List covers everyone you'll need for furniture, drinks and the rest.

Will our ceremony space be private?

The Gardens remain open to the public during your event. Your Venue Concierge will ensure your booked space is cleared and maintained for your exclusive use during your permit time.

What happens if it rains?

We recommend pre-booking a wet weather back-up space at the time of your original booking. A number of indoor spaces are available at additional cost. The decision to move indoors is yours and must be made at the commencement of your permit time.

Can we bring our own suppliers?

Yes. However, non-preferred suppliers require prior written approval and must hold current public liability insurance of no less than $10 million.
