Rachael Fowler – Research Scientist (Pauline Ladiges Plant Systematics Research Fellow)
Rachael Fowler is an evolutionary botanist whose research involves using molecular (DNA) sequencing to investigate evolutionary relationships and biogeographic patterns across large Australian plant groups. Much of Rachael’s research focus has been on the diverse arid zone genus Eremophila (Emu bush) and eucalypts in the monsoon tropics. Her passion lies in using molecular tools alongside traditional taxonomy to better understand patterns of evolution and species diversity. Rachael’s research interests extend to investigation of plant-insects interactions, plant chemistry and Indigenous uses of Australian plants.
As a Pauline Ladiges Research Fellow, Rachael works between the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and the Plant Systematics Research Group at the University of Melbourne, where she contributes to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate level students.
