Summer school holiday adventures at the Gardens

Make the most of the summer school holidays with family fun in the great outdoors.

At Melbourne Gardens, Botanica is back by popular demand. Curated by artist Darryl Cordell and inspired by his childhood in the bush, this free school holiday activity offers families the opportunity to work together to build their very own special world. Think cubbies, huts and forts created with natural materials gathered from the Gardens and a land of creatures made of clay.

Outdoor Escapades has been specially developed for bigger kids (ages 8–12, plus an adult). Designed to draw them away from their devices, this two-hour adventure will take them on a journey through the Gardens and they will join in a workshop where they will learn how to use hand tools to create woodworking project of their choice.

At Cranbourne Gardens, Fire & Seed delves into the bushland to look at how wildlife and plants respond to natural bushfires (ages 5–10, plus an adult). Welcome to Biderap takes families on a sensory journey through the Australian Garden and introduces them to Biderap – the dry season in the seven seasons of the local Aboriginal people. The Manna Walk Discovery also delves into the Bushland, where an expert guide will share the mysteries of the native environment and this precious remnant bushland.
