Hampton Court Palace update - May

During April, a major milestone was achieved with garden designer Jim Fogarty selecting and tagging all 1,453 plants at nurseries in the UK (Hortus Loci) and Spain (MediPalm) for our 'Essence of Australia' garden. Top of Jim's list were iconic plant varieties such as Anigozanthos (Kangaroo Paw) and Swainsona formosa (Sturt's Desert Pea) and lesser known varieties rarely seen in the UK such as Poa labillardierei (Common Tussock Grass) and Calothamnus quadrifidus (One Sided Bottle Brush).

On 1 May, the plants selected at MediPalm nursery arrived safely at Hortus Loci in the UK. The plants are now being stored in the nursery’s heated tunnels to keep them in peak condition ahead of the show in July.

The ‘Essence of Australia’ garden celebrates Australian flora and contemporary design as seen at the multi-award-winning 15-hectare Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne (designed by Taylor Cullity Lethlean), a division of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. The show garden will evoke the relaxed feel of Australia and Australians’ love of outdoor living as well as celebrating the states and gardening landscapes of Victoria and Northern Territory as two key travel destinations for British holidaymakers.
