Australia Day at Cranbourne Gardens
What better way to celebrate Australia Day than with a picnic and bike ride in the Australian bush!
Cranbourne Gardens includes some of the region’s best remnant indigenous vegetation, including heathlands, woodlands and two wetlands of State significance, that have been aged at between 5,000 and 8,500 years old.
The site also includes two picnic areas - the Woodland Picnic Area and the Stringybark Picnic Area – which are both open from 9am – 5pm on the Australia Day holiday (Monday 26 January).
The Woodland Picnic Area features large open grasslands, barbecues, a 6km bicycle track and a children’s playground while the Stringybark Picnic Area provides a welcome respite from the summer heat and a perfect place to enjoy lunch among the native wildlife including Southern Brown Bandicoots, fairy-wrens and Eastern Yellow Robins.
After your picnic, why not discover the sights, sounds, and smells of the Australian Garden with a Sensory Map and quiz? Pick up your free copy from the Visitor Centre and see who can answer all the quiz questions!
