Disabled access
Melbourne Gardens provides wheelchairs at the Visitor Centre from 9am-5pm daily.
Walkers, motorised and manual wheelchairs are welcome on all guided tours. All areas of the Melbourne Gardens are accessible by walker and wheelchair excluding the Melbourne Observatory buildings due to their historically narrow entrances. Access to Fern Gully is not recommended due to the uneven path structure and narrow pathways.
Motorised wheelchairs can access lawn areas but please take care after wet weather or watering.
Accessible car parking is available at several points around the Garden. Please view the Melbourne Map for exact locations.
The Melbourne Visitor Shuttle is wheelchair accessible and stops on Birdwood Avenue, near the Observatory Plaza (Stop 13).
The locations of accessible toilets are marked on the Melbourne Map.

All Abilities Access Key
Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria now has an access key for both Cranbourne and Melbourne Gardens. This tool allows visitors with people with limited abilities to make informed decisions about their visit to the Gardens. It provides detailed information about parking, the gradient of paths and access. It also highlights accessible toilets and services that the Gardens provides, such as electric scooters. The Melbourne Access Key is available to download in either high contrast or large print formats, and the Cranbourne Access Key can be found in both formats here:
Companion Card Holders
Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria acknowledges companion cards and card holders are entitled to participate in any walks free of charge when they are accompanying a client.
