How you can help? JOIN THE FRIENDS. Your Membership of the Friends helps the Gardens. The Friends raise money to support special projects in the Gardens and the Herbarium. Since 1982 the Friends have donated over $1,300,000 to the Gardens.
In the last year the Friends have donated funds towards Misting the Fern Gully, The Establishment of a Rare and Threatened Species Bed, Upgrade of Growing Friends Nursery and Renewal of the Ornamental Lake Outlet Pipe.  Make a Donation
Make a tax deductible donation (click to download form) to The Friends’ Trust Fund. Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible. or for more information on how to make a donation, please contact our office. Alternatively you can volunteer your time and skills to help the Friends. Volunteers need to be Members of the Friends - go to our Join the Friends page for more information FRIENDS' 25TH ANNIVERSARY SCHOLARSHIP SCHEMEThe first recipients of the Friends' Scholarship were announced at the Friends' AGM on 19 November 2007. They are -  Peter Symes of the Melbourne Gardens Division - awarded $8,000 for 'Diminishing water resources - strategic climate change adaption for RBG Melbourne'.
 Megan Hirst of the Plant Sciences and Biodiversity Division - awarded $2,000 for 'Identifying pre-treatments and procedures to assist seed germination in targeted Victorian plant species'.

 $114,000 - Renovation of Gate Lodge and Garden
$120,000 - De-silting of Central Lake
$200,000 - New Facilities in the RBG Nursery
$50,000 - Databasing the Herbarium Leguminosae collection
$60,000 - Publication of the History of the Herbarium

‘Water Works, Water Wise’
In 2002 the Friends launched Water Works, Water Wise, a long term project to finance the upgrading and completion of much of the RBG’s irrigation system. Since then over $120,000 has been donated through this project.  To date Water Works, Water Wise has funded –
- upgraded computerised irrigation infrastructure
- installation of irrigation to the Southern Cross Lawn
- installation of irrigation to Ian Potter Childrens’ Garden
- installation of irrigation and misting system in the Fern Gully
