Margaret Muffet

Born in Colac and living her early years in the small country town of Kawarren in the Otway Ranges, Margaret grew up loving the natural surroundings of the Australian bush especially the wild flowers. Her love of art led her to botanical exhibitions running concurrently in Melbourne in 1996, Margaret Stones, Jenny Phillips and other artists including Celia Rosser and the Art of Botanical Illustration at the Herbarium in Melbourne Botanic Gardens. This was a major turning point in Margaret’s art endeavours, until the Melbourne experience she had been working on botanical specimens in pencil and colour pencils. After seeking out Jenny and attending her Botanical Art School one day a week for a year Margaret decided to concentrate on botanical painting and with Jenny`s guidance chose to paint a series of ` Protea’ and work toward exhibiting in England. After completing 10 studies of Protea it was time to enter and travel to the BBC Gardeners World Live Exhibition in Birmingham a section of The Royal Horticultural Society of London  for June 2002, Margaret was awarded a `Silver-Gilt Medal in the Grenfell Range’ for her exhibit and was one of 27 other exhibits Artists displaying their work and competing for medals from all parts of Europe, this allowed her  to see where her work stood within the world arena and she was not disappointed with the result. Margaret completed another series of ` Protea` and her paintings were in The RHS Westminster Show London in November 2004, she received another Silver-Gilt medal . James J White of The Hunt Institute Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh America selected and purchased one of her Protea paintings, the painting was in the “11Th International Botanical Exhibition” which  toured  America from October 2004 – 2005. A trip to America and the opening of the 11th International Exhibition was a highlight. After completing another series of 8 Eucalypt paintings ready for BBC Gardeners World Live 2006 Show Margaret is again making a visit Birmingham .
