Lauren Black
Lauren is a freelance botanical artist whose passion for the Tasmanian wilderness brought her to
Hobart
in 1999. In 2004 she won the inaugural Margaret Flockton Award for excellence in scientific botanical illustration, NSW. In 2005 she was awarded an Asialink visual arts residency to
Sri Lanka
. She works consistently on public and private commissions and has also curated numerous botanical exhibitions within
Tasmania
. Her work has been exhibited widely in
Australia
and is held in state and national collections. A major collaboration between 2002-2004 with renowned ceramicist, Les Blakebrough saw six of her works feature as centrepieces on his porcelain plates, which were then gifted to their HRH Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark. Lauren’s most recent project has seen her go on to self-publish these paintings as a limited edition collector’s portfolio (Tasmanian Flora), traditionally presenting them with detailed text pages in handcrafted solander boxes.
