Lan Queen Aikenhead

Lan Queen was born in Singapore. After completing her GCE (British equivalent to Year 11) in Singapore, she submitted a folio of paintings of various tropical orchids to the London Slade School of Art in the hope of making botanical illustration a career. However, with typical pragmatic Chinese logic, she came to Australia to complete her secondary schooling and then enrolled in Science at university. She graduated from Melbourne University with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. Queenie is fascinated with the medicinal and culinary properties of plants, which marry well with her interest in botanical art. Many food plants are painted before they are cooked.
