Karen Beckmann

Karen's childhood love of illustrating the beauty of plants has remained with her in both her calling as a scientist (PhD in Botany) and private life (a farm of botanical bent). Her specialty is liverworts and mosses, a much overlooked group of tiny plants which she is eager to promote both as things of beauty and environmental importance. Karen also works on the liverwort collection at Melbourne Herbarium and is currently organizing an exhibition of moss and liverwort illustrations to coincide with the Herbarium's 150th anniversary in September 2003. Karen has successfully exhibited at a number of shows including The Art of Botanical Illustration 2000.
