Dolores Skrowronski Malloni
Dolores was born in
Argentina
, where she studied Graphics and Interior Design, becoming an Art Teacher when she completed her studies. In 1973 she migrated to
Australia
where she worked and continued her studies completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree at
Monash
University
, majoring in Glass Design.
Dolores became involved in Botanical Art in 1992, training with Jenny Phillips. In 1993 she was commissioned to paint wildflowers and grasses for the 1994 City of
Werribee Calendar
. She was also invited as a guest artist for ‘The Grampians Wildflower Show’ in which she participated from 1994 to 2002, producing small paintings of indigenous flora.
In 1996 Dolores had a successful solo exhibition at
Werribee
Park
which commemorated the 10th Anniversary of the Victoria State Rose Garden. In 1999 Dolores’ painting of Rosa ‘Victoria Gold’ was acquired by the Rose Society of
Victoria
for their collection.
Dolores has exhibited at ‘The Art of Botanical Illustration’ exhibition since 1994. Her unusual painting of Echinopsis cactus was acquired for the State collection. In 2000 her magnificent and much talked about painting of Cedrus libani was acquired for the State Collection generating a number of commissions. It also featured on the first Christmas Card as a part of the new “
Illustrated
Gardens"
project. In 2002 one of her magnolia paintings was also used for this project.
Dolores has also taken part in numerous group exhibitions, and her work is represented in corporate and private collections in various countries.
For this exhibition, Dolores has worked on a collection of climbers and has introduced (for the first time in the Art of Botanical Illustration) her new technique of pen, ink and watercolour on drafting film.
She has been experimenting with this medium for the past two years.
