Public Open Space Database for the Greater Melbourne Area

Public Open Space Database for the Greater Melbourne Area

ARCUE has recently updated their digital database of public open spaces across Greater Melbourne.

The database, along with Geographic Information System software, has been used by ARCUE to quantitatively assess spatial patterns of public open space across Melbourne. Maintaining this open space information in a digital database enables effective analysis, integration with other data sets and simple updating of the information when required. Knowing more about the amount and distribution of public open spaces in Melbourne will help decision-makers and planners make informed contributions to the ongoing development of the city.

The ARCUE Public Open Space Database can be supplied free of charge for research and non-commercial purposes, on the agreement that any updates or corrections performed on the database be provided back to ARCUE. It is also required that ARCUE is acknowledged as the owner of the database on all published material that reproduces the database or refers to it in any way. The database is supplied as an ArcView file, with accompanying metadata.

Contact Amy Hahs for more information about data supply.

ARCUE would like to acknowledge the assistance of Parks Victoria and each of the local governments that supplied source data for the Public Open Space Database project. ARCUE intends that the Public Open Space Database will be an ongoing project, and future versions will be compiled. We therefore welcome comment and suggestions from local governments about public open space within their LGA.
