Falling Tree Limbs

Water

The Royal Botanic Gardens regularly inspects and manages our trees to protect your health and safety.  Despite these steps trees may still unpredictably shed branches which may land well beyond the tree canopy spread.

When standing or sitting near trees, we ask that all visitors be aware of the unpredictable way in which branches may fall and land.

Swimming in or drinking from water features in these Gardens is prohibited.

Children must be appropriately supervised at all time

Mobility Aids at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne

The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne provides wheelchairs in two locations: the Visitor Centre (located at Observatory Gate) and the Terrace Tearooms (located near Gate A, on the corner of Anderson Street and Alexandra Avenue).

Wheelchairs are available 9am - 5pm seven days a week.  Bookings can be made on 9252 2429. A deposit of $50 is required and will be refunded upon return of the wheelchair.

The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne offers a number of tours suitable for wheelchairs.  Examples include:

  • Gardens Discovery Walk
  • Escape to the Tropics
  • Lakeside Stroll
  • Captivating Camellias

Tours conducted in the Old Melbourne Observatory are not suitable for wheelchairs due to the small size of the rooms and narrow stairs which must be climbed to gain access to telescope viewing.

In addition to guided tours, visitors can enjoy a self-guided exploration of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne using Garden Guides available at each entrance; these guides also indicate steep areas within the Gardens.

All toilets in the Royal Botanic Gardens are wheelchair accessible and disabled parking is available on Birdwood Avenue and Anderson Street. Disabled parking is marked on Gardens Guide maps.
