Plant Sales
Growing Friends volunteers propagate rare and interesting plants, many from stock in the RBG Melb, for sale to raise funds to support projects in the Gardens. Regular weekly sales are available for Members, plus Spring and Autumn Sales are open to the general public.

Weekly Plant Sales
***Unfortunately, Myrtle Rust has been found at a number of places in Victoria, and so, in an attempt to reduce its spread RBG has banned the movement of plant material both into, and out of, the Gardens. The Growing Friends Nursery is therefore closed for sales at the present time; but we hope this situation will change in the not too far distant future.
The Friends' Nursery is open on Fridays to Members only between 9 am and 1 pm so that Friends may buy plants or just browse the nursery. Please remember to bring your current membership card, also carry bags.
- Friday 10 February - 9 am to 1 pm - CLOSED
- Friday 17 February - 9 am to 1 pm - CLOSED
- Friday 24 February - 9 am to 1 pm - CLOSED
Note: The Friends' Inclement Weather Policy states that the Nursery will not open for sales if the Temperature is predicted to be 33 °C or above.

Spring and Autumn Plant Sales
Each Autumn and Spring the Growing Friends hold a major plant sale at RBG Melbourne near E Gate, which is open to the General Public.
The Autumn 2012 Plant Sale will be held on:
Saturday 21 April 10am to 4pm
Sunday 22 April 10am to 3pm
NOTE: For plant purchases between sales the nursery is open for members on friday mornings, see above for opening dates.
Plant of the Month
The Growing Friends have only two major sales to the public each year, in autumn and spring. A large proportion of the plants we grow are not in flower at the time of these sales. Therefore, every month we intend to provide photos of some of these hidden treasures.
Hibiscus ‘Plum Krazy’ grows as a compact rounded shrub with large lavender plum coloured flowers at the top of its branches which have large plum coloured leaves. It needs a sunny position with moist soil to show its best. A striking plant!
The Nursery
The Friends' Nursery is located next to the RBG Melbourne works yard. Staffed by members of the Growing Friends' group (see below for more information on the Growing Friends), it has in stock a large range of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs and succulents.
The Sale catalogue (MS Word - 377 kb) of plants usually available in the Nursery. Members of the Growing Friends are normally on hand at the Nursery to offer advice and recommendations. Don't forget to ask about what's on Special.
Don't know how to get there? View the location map (JPG - 91 kb) showing the location of the Growing Friends' nursery or obtain a copy from the Friends' office. Alternatively, join one of our regular guided tours to the Nursery - check events page for next tour date.
