Plant of the Month

Brunfelsia undulata is a beautiful small tree or large shrub (it grows to 2 metres) from the West Indies where it is called the Rain Tree. It needs full sun or semi shade in rich, moist but well drained soil. The large tubular flowers are very pale cream/white and are delicately perfumed. While flowering usually occurs in summer, in good conditions it will flower regularly throughout the year.

The Growing Friends have just started propagating it so plants won’t be available for about a year or so but it is one to put on your wish list!

Weekly Plant Sales

*Unfortunately, Myrtle Rust has been found at a number of places in Victoria, and so, in an attempt to reduce its spread, RBG has banned the movement of plant material both into, and out of, the Gardens.

The Growing Friends Nursery is therefore closed for Friday morning sales at the present time.

The Nursery

The Friends' Nursery is closed for Friday sales at the moment due to the Myrtle Rust threat and the RBG Melbourne protocol.

The Nursery is located next to the RBG Melbourne works yard. Staffed by members of the Growing Friends' group (see below for more information on the Growing Friends), it has in stock a large range of trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs and succulents.

The Sale catalogue (MS Word, 365 kB) of plants usually available in the Nursery. Members of the Growing Friends are normally on hand at the Nursery to offer advice and recommendations.

Don't know how to get there? View the location map (JPEG, 91 kB) showing the location of the Growing Friends' nursery or obtain a copy from the Friends' office. Alternatively, join one of our regular guided tours to the Nursery - check events page for next tour date.
