Shelters and Resthouses
There are eight pavilions and rest houses at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne (RBG Melbourne). Providing protection and a place to rest, they also provide a place to enjoy the many different views across the Gardens. Many of the pavilions were designed and built with interesting rustic features.
Some of these structures have required reconstruction and restoration works over the past few years

There are eight pavilions and rest houses at various locations in the Gardens: Tecoma Pavilion, Rose Pavilion, Temple of the Winds, Clematis Pavilion, Lake View Shelter, Fern Gully Rest House, the Separation Tree Rest House and the William Tell Rest House.
These pavilions serve a variety of purposes within the landscape. The pavilions are ornamental features that provide protection on hot or rainy days or allow a tranquil place to rest and enjoy the Gardens’ views. The pavilions were designed to fit with the overall vision of the landscape and built with interesting rustic features. Look for the handcrafted seats in the Separation Tree Rest House or the staghorn capitals on the columns inside the Temple of the Winds.
Reconstruction and other restoration works have been necessary over the recent years due to the age and condition of the pavilions.
