Garden Plant Conservation GPCAA
Welcome
The Garden Plant Conservation Association of Australia Inc. (GPCAA) registers plant collections. Plant collections listed on GPCAA’s National Plant Collections Register™ are held by home gardeners, botanic gardens, commercial nurseries, horticulturalists, plant collectors, garden societies, clubs and land managers.
The combined registration of each of these plant collections ensures the conservation and recording of the greatest diversity of garden plants suitable for Australia’s growing conditions. It also ensures an expanded pool of genetic plant material being available for our gardens in the future.
Australia continues to lose many different kinds of plants from our gardens each year. Some are victims of changes in fashion while others prove difficult to grow or propagate. Still more may be lost when a nursery closes down, a plant collector gives up his collection or a garden changes hands.
If you are an Australian plant lover, collector or gardener you might like to consider playing a role in the global movement to conserve the world’s plant species, cultivars and varieties.
