Prehistoric Plants @ the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and Antarctic Adventure @ IMAX

Experience an adventure through time. Let us take you to a green Antarctica before it split from Australia and became white with ice. Imagine what Antarctica and Australia were like when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

At the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne students can explore plant landscapes from these ancient times before Antarctica was a frozen world. Students can learn about plant evolution through the diverse plant collections and by examining plant fossils.

Then move millions of years forward in time and visit IMAX Theatre Melbourne.

These films take viewers on adventures to places unknown, allowing them to vividly experience what life is really like on the planet's largest, driest desert.

Please book and pay with each venue separately.

A Rainforest Adventure and a journey to another world, where insects rule!

Visit the Royal Botanic Gardens and The Ian Potter foundation Children's Garden to see how minibeasts and plants make remarkable connections. Go on a minibeast hunt in the Rainforest, meet a carnivorous plant, get close-up with worms and make minibeast-repellant potpourri, and find out what minibeasts have moved in at The Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden. Then through the power of giant screen 3D filmmaking, go deep inside the dramatic and savage world of these little guys, in Bugs! 3D at IMAX. This unique film tells the story of life and death in the wilds of the tropical rain forest, using stunning macro-photography and 3D imagery to accurately convey the tiny dramas of bug life on a grand scale. One of the barriers to bringing school groups out on excursions is the expense of transport. To assist in overcoming this barrier, The Ian Potter Foundation is providing support that will cover the cost of transport in order for eligible schools to travel to the Gardens to participate in one of the Children’s Garden programs.
Since it opened, the children of Melbourne have received The Ian Potter Foundation Children’s Garden very enthusiastically and we are all keen for every school child in the state to experience the education programs that we provide.

Please contact the Education Office on 9252 2358 to see if your school qualifies.
