Funding to assist student attendance at 3rd IOCC, Costa Rica March 2007
Call for applications for funding to assist student attendance at the Third International Orchid Conservation Congress San Jose, Costa Rica, March 2007. The Australian Orchid Foundation (AOF) includes as its objectives:
- To collect, preserve, protect, promote, propagate, nurture and cultivate orchids of all species and hybrids
- To educate the public generally, and young people in particular, in the study of the sciences involving orchids
- To establish, conduct, manage, support and finance research in the study of orchids, their characteristics, distribution, growth and preservation, promotion, propagation and cultivation
As part of its commitment to research, the AOF is seeking to encourage and nurture young scientists in research on Australian orchids. The Third International Orchid Conservation Congress (IOCC) will be held in San Jose Costa Rica in March 2007 (see www.jardinbotanicolankester.org for details). The AOF was a sponsor of the First IOCC held in Perth in 2001.
The AOF has available a small amount of funding to assist student attendance at the 3rd IOCC in Costa Rica, and is seeking applications for funding.
Applicants need to be bona fide students currently undertaking research on Australian orchids, and must present the results of their research, either as a spoken paper or poster, at the 3rd IOCC.
Applications should include: The nature of research being undertaken; name of academic institution through which the research is being undertaken; name and contact details of project supervisor(s) and two referees; $ amount being sought from the AOF; and other sources of funding contributing to the student's attendance at the IOCC.
Successful applicants will need to provide a brief written report to the AOF after the IOCC, and be available for a presentation of their work to the AOF Annual General Meeting at a later date.
