Dangerous Weather

On days of extreme fire danger, extreme winds or other dangerous weather conditions, the bushland may be closed for visitors' safety.

While the bushland is closed, the Australian Garden may remain open. To avoid disappointment, on days of extreme weather please check the website or call the Visitor Centre on (03) 5990 2245 to confirm which parts of RBG Cranbourne will be open.

Can we bring our dog to the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne?

Dogs and pets are not permitted within the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne at any time, including the Australian Garden and car-parking areas. Exceptions can be made for assistance dogs.

Why?

The RBG Cranbourne is an isolated fragment of remnant vegetation and is classified as an area of State and regional significance for the conservation of biodiversity. It also provides habitat for a number of endangered, vulnerable and at-risk native animals.

Native animals are extremely sensitive to the barking and lasting scent of dogs and other animals. They can be disturbed and frightened which can cause them to change their behaviour - for example, leaving their young unprotected. Native animals are also vulnerable to the diseases, pathogens and parasites that dogs can unwittingly bring into the Gardens. Smaller animals can be killed and larger animals disturbed and frightened by dogs and cats.

Looking after...

The Australian Garden and bushland at RBG Cranbourne contain a treasure trove of precious biodiversity.

You can help protect the Gardens for generations to come by:

• taking your rubbish home
• keeping to the tracks
• not feeding the birds or animals
• keeping to designated bicycle tracks
• leaving your dog and other pets at home
• leaving plants and flowers for others to enjoy
• playing ball games at the Woodland Picnic Area only.

Water

Swimming in or drinking from the Rockpool Waterway within the Australian Garden or Wylies Creek is strictly prohibited.

Wading is only permitted between the flags in the Rockpool Waterway.

Children must be appropriately supervised at all times in the Australian Garden and bushland areas.
