Botanic illustrators
The Botanical Illustrators meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 10am to 3pm in the Maud Gibson Room (which is near the RBG Cranbourne Office). It is a small, friendly group and anyone interested is welcome to call in and visit us during those times.
Joan Mason exhibited at Art of Botanical Illustration; Callistemon macropunctatus (scarlet callistemon)
Our group get-togethers, made up of artists of varying experience, allow us to share ideas, information and give each other encouragement and support. The group holds exhibitions at various galleries.
For further information about the group, exhibitions or classes, contact Margaret Holloway on 5998 5382 or at margaretmholloway@yahoo.com.
Botanical Art Classes
Botanical Art Classes (4 per school term) will be held on Fridays from 10am to 3pm in the Maud Gibson Room (which is near the RBG Cranbourne Office).
Edyta Hoxley will be taking the class from February 2013. Edyta is an experienced exhibiting artist whose work is predominately inspired by Australian indigenous flora. Two of her paintings are included in the State Botanical Collection held at the National Herbarium, Melbourne. With her teaching experience, Edyta has the ability to help students of all standards develop their own way of seeing and representing botanical subjects on paper.
The maximum class size is 10, ensuring individual attention. It is suitable for beginners or artists with some experience. Fees are $210 for members and $235 for non-members.
Update
The Illustrators Wednesday Group has been working consistently. Artists have had to think creatively about subject matter whilst the myrtle rust problem persists. Fruit, vegetables, shells and rocks are some of the subjects tackled. The group will break for the holiday season, finishing on 5 December and resuming on 6 February. We welcome visitors and hope to see Interested new artists in the new year.
Our participation at the opening of Stage 2 of the Australian Garden was most successful. Norma McDonald and Joan Mason and myself worked on our paintings during the weekend, and along with Joan's travel sketchbook and a folder with class subject examples, we created strong public interest. Margaret Godlewski was our very competent source of information. Also thanks to Margaret and her husband, Stephen, for helping with the setup.
Colour pencil with Geoff Sargeant
Geoff Sargeant conducted a follow-up workshop for us in September. He briefly went over the main points from the first workshop before giving each student personalised help with their work. His enthusiasm and careful attention to individual needs was appreciated by all. Recently Geoff was awarded best drawing for his Pebble Beach, Cape Cod in the Mortimore Prize Competition.
Exhibition in the Art Space at the City of Casey Offices 4 December, 2012 – 31 January, 2013
The students are holding an exhibition of their work in the Art Space at the City of Casey Offices, Magid Drive, Narre Warren from 4 December, 2012 to 31 January, 2013 (open during office hours). This is an exciting step for the students whose standard of work is improving all the time. A mixture of subjects and mediums (such as pen and ink, watercolour, graphite and colour pencil) will be included.
