Prescribed burn at RBG Cranbourne

The Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne tonight reassured residents about a prescribed management fire in the northern part of the Gardens.

Dr Philip Moors, Director, said that a spot fire had started during the Gardens' regular ecological burn program, which has been managed by the CFA.

"The burn, which had been closely monitored by the CFA, became a problem when a flame spotted and began spreading in an area in the northern sections of the Gardens.

"We are confident that the spot fire has been contained," he said.

Dr Moors stressed that there was no cause for alarm among residents. "The fire is away from residential areas, and is in its dying stages," he added.
