Subject: Karingal Secondary College students go ponding at the RBG Cranbourne.

Year 10 students from Karingal Secondary College are in for a watery experience at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne on Friday 4 March.

The 21 Applied Biology students will be ponding in Wylies Creek in order to learn more about the physical and chemical environments and the biology of the wetland.

The group will be doing a wetlands assessment of Wylies Creek, using nets and other scientific equipment. They will test oxygen and nitrogen levels, the water temperature and general condition of the wetland.

The Wylies Creek Wetlands, consisting of a series of four constructed dams along an existing watercourse, form a significant feature in the open southern area of the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne and provide habitat for water birds. Wylies Creek Wetlands support at least 5 threatened species of birds including the Blue Billed Duck.
