Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne has won the annual Melbourne Award in the Living City category

The Awards are made each year by the City of Melbourne. The 'Living City' category recognises achievements in enhancing Melbourne's liveability. The Royal Botanic Gardens shares the 2005 award with the City Library.

 

Dr Philip Moors, Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, said: “This is further confirmation of our success in caring for these magnificent Gardens, providing memorable experiences for our visitors, and contributing a central element to the cultural life of our city.”

 

The award trophy will be on display at the Visitor Centre at Observatory

Gate over the next few weeks.

 

Part of the trophy is crafted from wood salvaged from a storm-damaged Cypress tree in the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne two years ago.

 

The Living City Award is the latest in a number of accolades received by the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne over the past nine months. They include the Tourism Retailing Award for The Gardens Shop, and two awards, including best landscape, for The Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden.
