More volunteers needed at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne

The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne is offering a series of information sessions for people who are interested in becoming volunteers.

Steve Clancy, Manager of Public Programs, says that the Gardens is on the hunt for new volunteers to take the popular regular guided walks.

“We are particularly keen to hear from people of all ages with an interest in gardening, who are open to learning and like meeting people,” he says.

Rather than sign up volunteer guides immediately, the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne is organising the information sessions to alert people to the range of opportunities available. The Voluntary Guides at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne are part of a community of people who are passionate about plants.

All new volunteers will have to attend training sessions between May and September, where they will learn from Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne horticulturists, experienced guides and other staff. All volunteers will also be required to agree to a criminal record check. Volunteers have to be available for about four hours a fortnight.

Information sessions will take place on Wednesday 9 May at 6pm and Friday 11 May at 11am.

Public enquiries only: To book a place on one of the Information Sessions call the Royal Botanic Gardens on (03) 9252 2429.
